Trump claiming slavery wasn't so bad is part of a pattern. It's a Christian Nationalist theme. Pete Hegseth's pastor Douglas Wilson, in addition to saying women shouldn't be able to vote, claimed that "there was a mutual affection between slaves and their masters."

Here is an image of the crowd of people that chased a dozen ICE agents out of Columbia Heights yesterday. I don’t see one “elderly white hippie” there.

I do see a wide variety of ages, genders, and races; DC residents united in disgust at what Miller is cheering on.

A screenshot of the video. A crowd of easily 50-70 people is amassed on the sidewalk yelling and chanting at ICE agents. There are white people, black people, Latinos, and Asians visible. There are and men and women (and maybe even some Enbies and trans folks, who knows), and a wide mix of ages from young 20-somethings to people who look in their 50s.

While that is reassuring, I think the United States is currently testing the tensile strength of that arc with all the injustice, hatred, and corruption it is piling on.
