The entire god damn side of the TTC's streetcars lights up & flashes when the doors open, and drivers ignore them so often that there are signs reminding passengers disembarking to watch out for vehicles.

Drivers don't even pay attention to flashing lights at pedestrian crossings.

Why would they pay attention to them on a speed sign?

Back when I was in grad school, my dissertation supervisor was recently arrived from Europe and was very concerned about what would happen if, during a walk with their dog, they encountered a bear.

And I wound up explaining that they were worrying about precisely the wrong animal encounter.

I am from a place with moose and bears and people have an outsized fear of bears and a very undersized fear of moose. Yeah, don't mess with bears, but you don't even have to mess with a moose, you just have to exist near it and it might decide to try and end you

Kafka is, if I recall correctly, one of those people where his literary voice is very different from the man himself.

Lomo makes none of their own films. They're all rebadges of other producers.

I don't know what is up with Lomo's 120 film production, but no brand on the market fat rolls as much as they do.

I kind of suspect it's heavily related to their backing paper, which feels oddly thick & stiff. (Yes, yes: phrasing.)
