"When a child is killed by a motorist, it is the worst pain that can possibly be inflicted on a parent, because it is predictable and preventable," she said.

"The safety of children for any adult leader in a position of power should be a very high priority, and to intentionally move backwards on safety in school zones or anywhere is a horrible thing to do" said Jess Spieker of Friends and Families for Safe Streets, which also helped organize the protest.

An automated speed enforcement camera was surrounded by a "symbolic" circle of strollers, at a rally held by parents on Saturday.

The gathering was dubbed a "peaceful stroller protest" by organizer Parents Against Speeding TO.

I got doored 12 years ago now. I was moving at a fast clip along a main road. I sustained a concussion, broke my nose, fractured my elbow, sprained my wrist and my knee and sustained multiple lacerations. You bet it matters, the asshole should've been charged, but like a coward, he took off.

Demo on Saturday. Take to the streets. It’s the only way. Same will be done for the bike lanes when the time comes.

To be clear for our supporters, this event will be held around the speed camera near 1492 Bloor St W.

Having to follow laws meant to keep people, including kids and families, FROM BEING KILLED, feels like “bullying” to some people who frequently and blatantly break those laws.

"Every single traffic fatality and injury is preventable, but our provincial government is doing as much as it possibly can to maximize the number of people killed instead of following the evidence and doing what actually works to save lives,” the organization said.

FFSS said almost two people die in car crashes every day in Ontario, plus many more who suffer severe and life-ruining injuries and trauma.

“This kind of human carnage is jaw-dropping and horrific, but our provincial government treats it as if it is a perfectly acceptable cost of doing business."

The group said we need to build complete streets, which are designed for all users including motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and more, which is something Ford is undoing by trying to rip out bike lanes on Yonge Street, Bloor Street and University Avenue.
