In its truest, most sophisticated form, you are correct, but this tech can be trained to each individual who uses it.
What happens when someone just decides to extrapolate from a small sample size & apply it to everyone?

I think, maybe ironically, this version of social media doesn't exist anymore.
We don't use it as organically as we did a decade+ ago. Echo chambers & an overload of junk posts probably remove the ability to analyse this accurately (for now).

"But it didn’t stop there. Intelligence, religious affiliation, as well as alcohol, cigarette and drug use, could all be determined. From the data it was even possible to deduce whether someone’s parents were divorced." 2/2

This tech does exist. There's a ted talk on implanted chips that enable people to communicate after (eg) a stroke. They still have to be trained by each individual, but they work.
Yes, it's early tech (& this is the ethical exception), but it makes your point even more important & urgent.

"It is also a reminder that anti-trans, anti-queer and Islamophobic positions do not spring from nowhere. Public consensus can be manipulated by discreet networks with distinct agendas and multimillion dollar budgets."

"Farage has started calling the UK’s 24-week abortion limit “utterly ludicrous”. This summer a survey found that less than half of men aged 16-34 believe abortion should be legal in all or most cases, compared to 82% of men aged 55-77 – a generational vulnerability that could be exploited"

"Robinson has clearly recognised the political value of the Christian faith: there was an abundance of Christian symbolism at the “unite the kingdom” far-right march...

Pastors on stage gave speeches and led worship songs, aping the style of the evangelical mass politics of the US Christian right."
