Used to love the book. Film never hit it for me. Early series on TV were stupendous.

When he was shooting Lord Of The Rings in New Zealand he spent two hours every morning climbing a mountain to a set because he didn't want to go on the helicopter.

Beyond the undoubdted technical achievement, when he was doing this on the half dome at Yosemite, he didn't have a wife and two kids to leave behind and I can't help but think of this as selfish.
