Save the Children says this could be the first Labour government to “oversee a rise” in child poverty rather than a decline. Still, I’m sure disabled mums can comfort their hungry children with the news Rachel Reeves has managed to stick to her fiscal rules.

This is Labour’s poll tax. Its tuition fees. It is - as Iraq was for Blair - the moral stain that will mark Starmer’s government and the party for years to come. Severely disabled people are going to be starved, isolated and degraded. No Labour MP who backs this will be forgiven.

It is more than possible to raise the meagre UC rate for healthy jobseekers without lowering the rate for disabled and sick people. There’s no either or here. Whether it’s Labour or the Tories, it only becomes strivers v skivers when it is a convenient narrative for politicians.

Politics is ultimately about choices: how you raise cash and where you spend it. Labour acts as if they are forced to cut disability benefits but leading economists say they can avoid it by taxing the super rich. Spending cuts are a political choice. Don’t let them pretend otherwise.

@swalesmetroprof.bsky.social Has Welsh Govt got something to learn from Andy Burnham, by having all buses & trains in Wales integrated under one brand? And having full devolved control of NR in Wales? If Gtr Manchester can do it.......

And as Trump Is about to take office and threatening NATO, WHO, science, climate mitigations, health, global economy, etc etc
.. I am very very glad we have a Labour govt that doesn't need an election till after he's left office.
Esp given Badenoch, Jenrick, Farage, Truss etc going MAGA
In a week that has seen Musk grow ever more unhinged and dangerous, we now have Zuckerberg going full MAGA and deliberately worsening disinformation environment, I am so grateful for #BlueSky but also fearful for its future.

Worth restating the evidence for all the conspiracy theory armchair virologists who tell me ‘that’s not what I saw on the internet..’

Now look at things...

Now look at things (if you're not already) as if you're immunocompromised, or at high risk for other reasons

The ONLY thing remaining for these groups was sensible targeted boosters with updated vaccines.

Now, that's being dismantled as well.

Ask, who gets to "live"?
