In Windows, you get hard/soft, but only via delete and modified by shift. Solely for the purpose of skipping the recycle bin, getting too used to it, and flying too close to the sun.

I personally think the keys themselves should have the same functionality, and be the softest, least committal delete. Not sure if you need a hard delete in a 3D context, I always want to maintain my undo queue, I think.

Requires more context, but I would expect them to be the same, conceptually mirror the text editing behavior.
Backspace goes back, delete removes forward. But how this translates from 1 dimension to 3…
