Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

People need to be aware how serious any head injury can be. I hope your posts help raise awareness amongst friends and followers.

Their experience was pretty bad. Three month coma and very intrusive surgery to the left side of the head. Changed their personality and life. Years later they did a charity run and the look on her face crossing the line still warms. Huge steps! She then put on her skates and it was very emotional.

When I hung around the roller derby scene for @rollergrrrls.bsky.social there were a LOT of concussions and even with their helmets it could be very serious indeed. One friend lost years to agoraphobia and other health issues due to TBI. Pleased to see you recover. Wishing you well.

I read that twice and still laughed. Enjoy the show!

Philip's role in Magnolia is certainly more restrained than the others but his line "This is the scene in the movie where you help me out." wins every time. Genuinely emotional stuff.

An actor sorely missed.

Pleased you didn't miss out. Looks like my film choice for tonight is sorted. We can alert each other when there's a 4K announcement for Magnolia.

Moore, Cruise, and Hoffman were working on a next level. Agree.. it is the raw honesty of their performances that really impresses.

Side note... did you notice the TJ Mackey wardrobe nod in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery when you see Edward Norton at the bar? www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_2U...

The dvd has a documentary that is worth picking up on the 2 disc edition. Mine is in storage.

Stellar performances from everyone. Julianne Moore's scene in the chemist always wins as does Tom Cruise's with his father at the end. That said, it is Philip Seymour Hoffman's cry when dressing the bed with new sheets that gets me every time. So many moments. Some LOUD! [TJ Mackey]... others quiet.

An hour this morning spent/wasted trying to access my online banking with no success to the point that panic sets in and I'm ready to call customer services to cancel my card.

A breath. I write down the password and login and card details carefully with numbers above each letter/digit and I'm in.

Magnolia is a Top Ten film for me. Damn near perfect.

“WHERE’S HIS HELMET?”

But, seriously… this is an iconic image seared into my childhood. James Bond does Star Wars!

Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde. 1971.

Classic Hammer horror featuring Ralph Bates and Martine Beswick as the titular characters. An interesting twist on a familiar tale with nods to Jack the Ripper and Burke & Hare and also proving inspiring for my current book HYDE.

I still have my original OTOMO paperbacks including the KODANSHA editions of AKIRA to hand printed on cheap newsprint paper and they still look amazing. The art impresses beyond the low production values.

Read the novella years ago and there is a hint in the trailer that they go with that ending. Could still prove a misdirect but hopeful. The Schwarzenegger film was entertaining but hokey.

ah, fudge. Missed book eight. This year has been... challenging. I genuinely thought I had backed book eight. I'll see how best to collect with next Kickstarter, hopefully.
