Is a Seam Lock a zip? 😀

Thanks for all the humour, Glenny - intentional or not! ❤️

Apparently he started singing that because they didn't know how to finish the song. In which case the answer to his question might be described as "on and on with you saying that and going aiiee-aii a lot, mate".

Plus the stunningly weird realisation that warm shit is better than cold shit.

As usual, the relationship is brilliantly summarised by the man best known these days as "Rufus's dad".

*Matthew Kelly on Stars In Their Eyes voice* Maryland cookies ARE… Merryland cookies!!! BUZZING MATE. Obligatory snow/Xmas tree/Santa art have been added. Probs a last min jobby on Canva. So I am sated but wish there was a tiny bit more festivity: ‘dashing through the dough’ would’ve been nice 3/5

The REM book is... intriguing. It's non-linear, not a lovely Thomsonian narrative: chapters vary widely in their focus and scope. More of an attempted encyclopedia, listing (eg) alter egos, songwriting chronology, politics, packaging, accents... and all written, winningly, by a Geordie on the dole.

Robbie's 1998 song Jesus in a Camper Van lifted half its chorus from Loudon's 1973 adaptation of Woody's 1961 song I Am The Way. Woody's publishers Ludlow won damages, although not as much as they wanted, and the song was removed from subsequent pressings. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/enterta...

Ha! Fair. Didn't Loudon Wainwright have to hand the money he made from Robbie Williams straight over to the estate of Woody Guthrie?

Think the Squeeze one was just lyrics, ported from 'Heartbroken World' into 'Angel Eyes'. But if you're nicking music too, much less forgivable. Although to bring it back full-circle, I see Costello was magnanimous to Olivia Rodrigo over Brutal, possibly to the despair of his bank manager...

Yeah, that's a prime example - all that "what noisy cats are we" stuff was lifted verbatim.

Vague memory that Wet Wet Wet were done a couple of times for lifting - one from Van and one from Squeeze?

Good spot (despite such a post being catnip to argumentative twerps).

Reading REM book 'It Crawled from the South' is an eye-opener - tracking down the passages Stipe has admitted he'd lift wholesale. The EC example feels more like a man jotting down phrases and stretching himself to include them.

When I was a kid, dad told me this,
"You are not learning to draw because you might become the greatest artist ever. But, during those minutes of solitude between work shifts, when you can sit down with a cup of coffee, you can draw on the napkin with a ballpoint pen. You can keep your soul alive."
