💯 Mythbuster. Data over politics.
(Also, CA today is $1.44 higher than the national average)

that’s the reason the median price is so much lower than the average price

Of course. All states factor into our data.

going to be close! Gonna guess maybe not quite yet

Except the number of stations is now over 100 across 7 states. It seems you’re more interested in bending reality to fit your desired political agenda.

And it’s all in the context, Trump is correct to say some gas prices are below $2. Some could be 1. He’d be wrong to give context that the average American is paying that. It’s not “splitting hairs”, it’s providing context.

I didn’t say it does. But many are refuting that because no state averages below $2 that these stations don’t exist, which is incorrect

Credit prices are generally 10c or so higher than the cash price, but it does vary.

Cash is not so much “special pricing”. It’s common in all 50 states. We don’t post or track gimmick prices, but cash pricing and/or wholesale memberships are quite common in the average household.

That’s about 0.1% of all US stations are below $2, so hardly “common”
December 18, 2025 at 11:29 AM
it seems many are using state averages to dispute that individual stations are below $2. GasBuddy is indeed tracking over 100 individual stations below $2, while the national average is $2.89. No state has an average below $2, but more than 100 stations are.

In time the low crude oil price is certainly not good for US producers

let the market do its thing... demand appears normal for now.

There are a handful of stations in OK below $2. This sounds accurate.
