yeah this is basically my approach too. parameterize everything so i can easily tweak it and make it feel perfect.

campaign mode is def. the star of the show. lots of interesting choices with both a gradius power-up system AND a drafting system.
but it nails the geometry wars 2-style modes too! just got an S in classic and i'm buzzing! pure flow state ❤️

made an assist menu for derelict star today. surprisingly all the options were pretty easy to implement. guess i had a good foundation.

i'm starting to understand it! the scoring penalty for getting green guys hit is BRUTAL as is losing a powerup for getting hit. i sometimes feel like i go into a death spiral where i'm just losing points level after level.
quite a good game, though. so much polish and attention to detail!

just ran into an example of what i'm talking about -- needed to make a new "_FX" cell for a bunch of cells in my spreadsheet so i copied to sublime and wrote this little find & replace

quite fun! i think it def. ramps up a little slower than robotron and i wasn't able to identify what the enemies did exactly until i got overwhelmed by spawners. i think it plays pretty close to some of jeff minter's games, which are about flow state and being able to read the chaotic visuals.
