Reader of SF&F, mainly. *Libraries have ebooks that you can read on your phone. Est. 2005
It’s been over five years since Battle Ground. I’ll admit I didn’t finish it back then. I found the very long fight sequence exhausting. But the story hasn’t ended. Twelve Months is, I understand, a more reflective Dresden tale. And maybe the character, like the author, just needed time away.

It seems I can’t walk into a bookshop on 2026 and not come out with a book. Slatter has been on my list for a while thanks to
various recommendations (it’ll be my first by her too) and the Abe was a vibes purchase fingers x I made a good choice.

Thank you to everyone who recommended Sorcery and Small Magics. It was my read on a plane ride. The flight flew by, but I also cried. I mean, tears streaming down my face, crying. That f—ing ending!! I was agog. Highly recommend @orbitbooksuk.bsky.social @maigadoocy.bsky.social

1st 26 read: @cstross.bsky.social’s novella A Conventional Boy. The lore is loring, and I think I need to reread some other works from The Laundry in order to do a review justice. Even if you’re not acquainted with the series, it’s a brilliant tale of what happens when TTRPGs get a little too real.

Do you know the best gadget I have bought this year for reading? Not the Boox Palma, which is a great phone-sized e-ink tablet perfect for ebooks as it has the Google App Store, but a Bluetooth remote that I can use to turn the pages without touching the screen. Game changer for ebooks.

*breathes out* Oh, good, as it’s one of my books of the year, as well as my first Birdverse. I have these two. Any suggestions on what to read next?

This is what happens when I get book vouchers at Christmas. I aim for poetry or classics. This time I satisfied both options.

Horrormance! I can see that. I guess SF Specmance or Scimantasy?

Almost £1.5m in pledges!

This is going to go @joeabercrombie.com’s head isn’t it?

And the other two books I picked up.

Are you a book lover in Paris if you do not go to @shakespeareandcompany.com? I happily queued this weekend to get in. I came away with three books, all stamped. And I am very pleased with my selection and that I was able to have them stamped.

Rachel Pollack (whom I was honoured to meet a couple of times) not only instilled in me the joy of divination (talking to the divine through tarot) but also created one of my favourite urban fantasy detectives in The Fissure King: A Novel in Five Stories.

I can’t decide which one to start next. Any thoughts to help me choose?

It hits different reading this whole thread.
November 20, 2025 at 10:24 AM
So I mentioned that I had a book voucher burning a hole in my pocket. Well, this is what I bought. Have you heard of them? Which would you read?
November 14, 2025 at 8:21 PM
Well @thestorygraph.com is keeping me honest. Must read faster.
November 1, 2025 at 8:59 AM
Winter Nights or Winter Knights? I could not resist the latest from @alixeharrow.bsky.social and @tashasuri.bsky.social

You’re more consistent than me. Though I’m making sure I read everyday.
October 26, 2025 at 7:44 PM
You say this but @thestorygraph.com has a challenge that makes you read at least 1 page a day. I am committed now.
October 26, 2025 at 11:26 AM
Right, I’m going in. What’s going to be interesting is if my brain links this to The Grimoire Grammar School Parent Teacher Association by Caitlin Rozakis, which is one of my books of the year. They are both magical school stories, but that’s all the overlap I can see happening.

And the cover.

If someone could hypnotise me to be averse to going into bookshops, that would be great… this week so far…
