And yes, we will run out of specialist and GPs if we don't train residents.

Is you tenure at "The University of Life" perchance, "Prof Sensible?"

Name me another profession that makes as many personal demands as medicine?

How many academics work long days and night shifts in intensely stressful situations?

Your ignorance of the difficulties that residents are facing trying to progress in their careers is farcical.

I am friends with established academics and scientists.

And I wouldn't dream of having the hubris or arrogance to lecture them about their career progression and training , a matter of which I know little of....

You cannot conflate academia to medicine.

You imply we're entitled.

Maybe so, but there are many, many opportunities internationally for a medical graduate and the country will suffer from a very large shortage very quickly if that training posts are not expanded.

Do you actually know any medical Drs?
December 3, 2025 at 2:23 PM
And other professions differ from medicine in that we have only one monopoly employer in the UK- Jen w why so many residents , over half, are leaving the UK or medicine entirely.
December 3, 2025 at 12:57 PM
I will agree to disagree

There are huge shortages of specialists and GPs, and large numbers of resident drs in non training posts, and this will worsen as clinical demand increases/ an ageing population and retirement of fully trained drs.
December 3, 2025 at 12:55 PM
TBF the bigger issue is lack of career progression, training posts , jobs and under/ unemployed Drs when the NHS is busier than ever before.

The NHS is doing a brilliant job....
Of training up the next generation of Canadian/ Ozzie/ Kiwi medics.

Limiting training posts now will result in enormous shortages of consultants and GPs in a decade.
December 2, 2025 at 4:47 PM
It always has been an expectation that there would training posts and career progression- a mix of training, service provision and an unwritten covenant that you will take the downsides of being a trainee/ resident (of which there are many) for career progression and stability.
December 2, 2025 at 4:46 PM
100% this.

Streeting has made out he's hugely increased training posts - by approximately 1000.

Meaning there are still tens of thousands of residents applying for small numbers of posts - the highest ratios in decades.

You're missing a great opportunity to wind people up/ terrify them !

Utter short sightedness not vaccinating front line staff.

For the cost of a Covid vaccine, I was off work for a week - a whole week of GP appts lost!

The vaccine is pretty astonishing. Just look at that green line.

Great idea!

I can't figure out the motives for people like RFK.

Is it genuine (deluded) ideology?
Greed?
Deliberate seeding of disinformation (following the Russian playbook of spycraft)?
Or genuine malice, a desire to actually cull populations for profit (tin foil hat time I know!)?

Evil, it sure is.
