Our recipe book is finally published! Have a look at some of the recipes from Tz'utujil Maya women from our "Recipes for Recovery" project.
This work was part of my contribution to the @gcrf-ixchel.bsky.social based at the @edinburgh-uni.bsky.social as a postdoc.
Thank you all who contributed! 🌱

We are pleased to share our latest #OA book, 'Mujeres Tz’utujiles: Recetas para la Recuperación en Chuk Muk'.

This recipe book is part of a transformative feminist & decolonial project that documents the agri-food traditions within the work of Tz'utujil Maya women.

A bit late in the game, but hi! I'm Ana - architect, environmental social scientist & human geographer. I'm currently a postdoc, working with Maya communities in post-disaster contexts as part of the Ixchel project at Edinburgh uni. I love working with Indigenous women around home-gardens and food.
Drawings from fieldwork with Tz'ututjil women in Guatemala about their home-gardens. Corn from a milpa from the home-garden of a Tz'utujil woman. Details from the "güisquil" plant in one home-garden. Mural at the local school from my fieldwork, showing volcanoes and rural life in the background, and an Indigenous woman holding corn in the front.

Hi Bluesky! I research communication, relationships, and decision-making for risk reduction with a focus on volcanic hazards 🌋 and an eye on equity. Background in geology, Spanish, geophysics, journalism, and social science (broadly). Here for science and cats and new ideas about everything.
Fuego volcano, Guatemala, in silhouette at sunset, with ash drifting up from its summit crater. Floofy black and white cat sleeping on my lap at my desk. Very cute. He has tufts of fur pointing out between his toe, also known as bean sprouts. Me and a group of awesome grad students and our awesome cook in El Salvador on an NSF-funded International Research Experience for Students interdisciplinary research project on water scarcity. Collaboration is the best. Pic of me and friend/research collaborator Dr Ailsa Naismith drinking coffee in front of Fuego Volcano, Guatemala, both with big smiles. Her mug reads “broken crayons still color.” Mine reads “love yourself.” We bought them during our grocery run because it made us laugh to think of them living at the volcano observatory, where we’re pictured.
