I’ve never been much of a wand user, but I often imagine getting one with a special grip like this. Strap on a hip holster, mount up on Gardain, ride out to the frontier of Droaam and be a real wild wandslinger. YEEHAW!

Sterngate, 18 Therendor Conflict still exists in the Corners of Khorvaire. Even though the Last War is over, there are still threats across the Nations that need to be dealt with. The soldiers stationed at Sterngate on the Brelish-Darguunian border are the first line of defense against the raiding marauders who range across the border in search of slaves to take back to their clan. Despite the grim assignment, they are a raucous and jolly bunch who spend their time between training, patrols, and carousing which is the only real form of entertainment they get here on the far eastern edge of the kingdom. On my layover, I happened to witness one of their more cherished celebrations. A young soldier by the name of Azren Cooper had just finished their first tour of duty and was faced with the choice of either returning home to their small hamlet, or "reupping". Which means signing on for another tour of duty. That night at evening mess, the fort commander called Azren forward and asked for their decision. When Azren proudly announced their intent to remain in the army, the entire mess hall erupted in cheers. After much carousing, a squad of their fellow soldiers took Azren (who was quite inebriated) to the ramparts. Stripping them of their clothes, the squad painted two bright blue chevrons on Azren's chest and draped a bear skin over their shoulders. To a chorus of chants and jeers I shan't repeat here dear readers, Azren ran along the ramparts until the inevitable stomach-related results of inebriation occurred. Over the eastern side of the walls. Think of that whatever you will. However rough they may be, Sovereigns bless these brave soldiers who protect those of us in the Corners of Khorvaire. Zolanberg, 16 Therendor Happy accidents occur everyday in the Corners of Khorvaire. As I visited the gem markets of Zolanberg on my recent layover, I came upon a shard merchant bartering vociferously with a customer. The exchange quickly became heated and in the ensuing scuffle, the Khyber shard that was at the center of the disagreement was knocked from the merchant's table across the aisle and into a cage at a nearby House Vadalis booth. What emerged from the cage then was strange, beautiful, and intriguing all at once... ...birdsong! As I approached the cage, I came upon a breeding pair of large canaries with strange, scintillating plumage. I was then met by the booth's attendant, Alianne d'Vadalis. Once the shard had been returned, she spoke with me about her birds. She has been magebreeding canaries to not only detect the pockets of poisonous gas that sometime beset unlucky miners, but also to fortify them against the normally-fatal-to-canaries effects of the gases. She demonstrated this by puffing a small bellows containing the gas and the canaries reacted with cries of alarm and panicked fluttering of their wings. With the gemseller's permission, Miss d'Vadalis borrowed the Khyber shard and held it close to the canaries once again. Instead of panicked cries, the two birds once again broke into glorious song. Alianne now believes she can continue her breeding and select for this trait, one day producing magebred canaries that will not only detect the dangerous gases, but also the valuable Khyber shards that miners brave the gas to obtain. Another potentially valuable service to be provided by House Vadalis. Another reminder of all the small miracles to be discovered in the Corners of Khorvaire. Genbo Santor d'Sivis

Korranberg, 14 Therendor As I begin my latest sojourn into the Corners of Khorvaire, I'll be presenting articles from each of my stops along the way. When one writes of Korranberg, one could go on at length about the Great Library or even the House Sivis Citadel. Instead, I'd like to tell you about Ezza and Jion. On most days if you find yourself near the corner of Badgerway and Grabin's Hutch Street, you might just hear music! Ezza and Jion are a bicentenniaseptuagenarian married Zil couple who have been performing there for decades. Every morning the two make their way to a small bakery. There on the patio Jion tunes his violin and Ezza warms up her squeezebox. The two put out no cup, they pass no hat, and they accept no coin. They simply play. If you venture to ask them why, Jion simply smiles and winks at his wife who responds with a gentle blush and giggle. At midday they pause for a small lunch of meat, cheese, and fruits before filling the air with their music again. As the sun sets and the Magelights come on, the most extraordinary tradition occurs. Members of their extended family, their children, grandchildren, and niblings of all ages make their way to the patio, each bringing instruments of their own. Once enough of them have gathered, Ezza sets aside her squeezebox and Jion sets down his bow. They take each other's hands and dance to the music of their family. The centuries melt away in that tender moment and the two almost seem to be as youthful as they were on the first day they met, oh so long ago. Once the dance is over, their family embraces them and ushers them off to their home in The Dens, a quaint neighborhood in Old Korranberg. I urge any citizen of or visitor to Korranberg to seek out this transcendent experience, one of the many stories from the Corners of Khorvaire. Genbo Santor d'Sivis
