Very important report from @eciu.net that gives the lie to the common assertion that energy prices are high because of @ed-miliband.bsky.social driving to green energy. Shows that they would have been even higher without it: wind cuts wholesale price by 25%.

Analysis: Growth in British renewables cutting electricity prices by…
Gas power now only setting the price of electricity around 85% of the time.

Will a single Tory MP this week have the nerve state that ‘industrialised nations do actually need to reach net zero by 2050 to avert catastrophic levels of risk, and to pretend otherwise is utterly ridiculous’?

A thoughtful mustread by @samfr.bsky.social on why Labour has been so obsessed with trying to mimic Reform - and
why this is entirely self-defeating.

A hugely important article by @j-amesmarriott.bsky.social on how an astonishing decline in reading books, brought about by the smartphone, is fuelling authoritarianism and threatens the greatest setback for civilisation since the fall of the Roman Empire.

Essential reading from @chathamhouse.org on what the world will look like if/when we crash through the 1.5 degree temperature guardrail. Sobering stuff that needs to be taken aboard as resolve to tackle climate change weakens.

Some highly questionable industry assertions about ‘tiebacks’ and new oil & gas exploration licensing covered by the Sunday Times this morning, incl. the volume of potential production & the impact on jobs & supply chains. Let's take a closer look: www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

Ed Miliband is expected to allow exploration next to existing sites to increase fossil fuel production without breaking a manifesto pledge

In fairness, that’s what the article itself says….

The NYT title seems incoherent and ideological.

Most nations are proactively moving towards solar power and decarbonisation.

It’s mostly the white supremacist nations like Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK that are backsliding towards fossil fuel annihilation along with the USA.

"Sinn Féin and the DUP have stalled the nutrients action programme over fears of a farmer backlash."

The *only* thing they'll unite on: ensuring the largest lake ecosystem in Ireland or Britain, Lough Neagh, continues to die of pollution.

What a f**king disgrace.

interesting point from Tom Baldwin on Sky News that most of the media predictions about cabinet sackings - Bridget Phillipson, Lisa Nandy, Richard Hermer and Ed Miliband - were utterly wrong: they were among the only cabinet ministers who weren’t moved at all
