Whilst out on my Christmas Day walk along the Neckar River, Ladenburg. Germany, it was an absolute joy to come across a flock of 7 White-headed Long-tailed Tits (Aegithalos caudatus caudatus). A sub-species I have wanted to see for a long time.
Such cure adorable looking birds.

Collared Dove is a recent coloniser to the UK, having bred for the first time in 1955. However, this has declined across the UK since the mid-1990’s. The disease Trichomonosis is thought to be a contributing factor to this. @btobirds.bsky.social @jncc.bsky.social @rspbscience.bsky.social

The Song Thrush population across the UK has fluctuated since BBS began in 1994. Since around 2012, this species has increased. This species is well known for its habit of bashing Snail shells on ‘anvils’, such as rocks. @btobirds.bsky.social @jncc.bsky.social @rspbscience.bsky.social

This week we spotted some by-the-wind sailors which had washed up at Kimmeridge. These unusual looking creatures live on the surface of the sea and are usually found drifting in the open ocean, travelling on currents and using their sail-like structure to catch the wind.

We've managed to read the BTO ring number of the adult female from this years' live hobby nest camera. EZ92156. Ringed by DRSG in 2019 as a chick at another F.E. site 8.5 miles away. To think she will have travelled at least 50,000 miles migrating alone!
