There’s some weirdness in regards to this. Because the Maya seemed more severely impacted by the 535-540 CE extreme weather events / volcanic winter

Ah, perfect. That sounds about right too. I just assumed that the prior events didn’t coincide with tourist season and occur during nice weather.

The 3 story pillars were the point of failure (or so it seems), and while I could be wrong here they didn't look reinforced. That design should have never been built in my opinion. In other words, normal skyscrapers don't collapse when they experience such weak / moderate shaking. And yet... (2/2)
