The second day of the GEORGE Technical Forum featured a visit to the VLIZ Marine Robotics Lab, a knowledge hub for autonomous marine systems, including the USVs Adhemar and Gobelijn. Many thanks to the @vliz.be team for showcasing these impressive technologies!

GEORGE partner @icos-ri.eu has published the results of the largest intercomparison study of its kind, comparing 27 instruments used for surface ocean pCO₂ measurements, including some that are now being further developed and optimised in GEORGE.

Sailbuoy, a platform for surface ocean measurements equipped with the #CaPASOS sensor, was successfully recovered in Ireland by teams at Marine Institute! The platform had been measuring pCO2 autonomously for 2,5 months, travelling more than 1 000 km ⛵🌊 Congrats to all! @exeter.ac.uk

Scientists in the GEORGE project have developed an autonomous sensor for monitoring total alkalinity (TA), an essential parameter of the ocean carbonate system that until now could not be monitored autonomously.

New study alert! The ICOS Ocean Thematic Centre has conducted a major intercomparison study, testing 27 different pCO2 instruments under controlled conditions. Congratulations to Tobias Steinhoff et al. on publishing this important work!

The Sailbuoy autonomous surface ocean measurement platform was deployed yesterday off the coast of Ireland.

The RRS James Cook has returned to Southampton, marking the end of a 24-day expedition to the Porcupine Abyssal Plain, where GEORGE technologies tested in deep-sea conditions. Welcome back, everyone! 🚢

Over the coming months, the GEORGE teams will be analysing the data. Stay tuned for more updates!

Their research voyage was a monumental 40th trip to the Porcupine Abyssal Plain Sustained Observatory, about 800km W of Lands End! ⛴️⚓️🤗

Good news for data quality: GEORGE has developed a sampler for validating autonomous inorganic carbon measurements over long deployments. Last week at the PAP site in NE Atlantic, samplers were installed on a buoy for their 1st real-world test. Samples will be preserved for months for lab analysis💧

Last week, the EMSO Generic Instrument Module (EGIM) seabed lander was successfully deployed at the PAP site in NE Atlantic, with new TA, DIC, pH & pCO₂ sensors developed & optimised in GEORGE. The EGIM was lowered to 4,850 m, where it will remain for a year to perform autonomous measurements 🌊

News from the PAP site in the Northeast Atlantic 🌊Two #SEAEXPLORER gliders, fitted with new TA and pH sensors developed in GEORGE, have been profiling the water to 1000 m for the past 11 days. Data are being validated against ship and mooring sensors. Recovery planned for tomorrow, 17 June 🚢👏
