Even exceptional work often remains unduly noticed if it's not marketed in the right way.

"Uncooperative statistician": the term used (typically by a senior clinician) to describe a well-trained and knowledgeable statistician who refuses to conduct flawed or fraudulent research.

It’s not the method that makes you causal it’s the assumptions

I can confirm there's chaos at Berlin Brandenburg! Everyone has to be checked in by hand (taking 10-15 mins per passenger). Rumours of hand written boarding passes.

We need a cyber security expert to comment on the interreliance and vulnerability of these check in systems!

We're excited to announce CLS will lead the first new nationally representative UK-wide birth cohort study in 25 years. Generation New Era will follow the lives of more than 30,000 babies born in 2026, during their early years, and potentially beyond. Read more: bit.ly/4gfttBP
Photo of three babies lying on the carpet Graphic describing some of the key features of the study: 30,000 babies will take part, it is the first new UK-wide birth cohort study in 25 years, babies will be age 9-11 months at the first survey, and 3-4 years at the second survey. Graphic showing sample sizes in the four UK countries: 16,300 babies in England, 5,000 babies in Scotland, 4,500 babies in Wales, and 4,200 babies in Northern Ireland. Graphic describing some of the elements of the study. This includes boosts for ethnic minority and low income families, interviews with fathers as well as mothers, consent to linkage to administrative data.

Yes definitely, but my understanding is the “intervention” here is exactly this first week enforcement/encouragement, rather than addressing any background reasons
georgiatomova.bsky.social
This allows us to predict future behaviour. However, it does not mean that attendance in the first week itself has any *effect* on future attendance.

In other words, it does not mean that enforcing attendance during the first week would somehow improve attendance later on.

“Pupils in England who missed school during the first week back in September 2024 were more likely to be absent for large parts later in the year, figures suggest.”

This only tells us that those who miss school once are more likely to miss school again in the future. It’s not very surprising.

Great to see a joint 2026 SSM/IEA meeting, marking the 70th anniversary of SSM and one of the potential 70th anniversary dates for the IEA (though in 1956 it was called the International Corresponding Club). My first SSM & IEA conferences occurred closer to the founding dates than to today
