Tolkien fought in the Battle of the Somme. He saw the horrors of war, and the moments of bravery and fear within it up close.

And after all that. ALL that. He wrote Lord of the Rings. He declared true bravery and masculinity to be love, friendship and humbleness.

Musk is everything he hated.

I am so enjoying Liverpool's current run of form. It's a joy to see them lose game after game. 😂

Sensible words from Kathy Sheridan. All idiots calling for spoilt votes on Friday and attempting to deligitimise the winner, please take note.

Am I imagining it, or does this article read like an obituary?

A great article by Fintan O'Toole. Perfectly detailing my feelings on Catherine Connolly's crazy pronouncements about our EU neighbours.

This is a good article and should be read by anyone complaining that the process of getting a nomination to stand for president is "undemocratic. "

Yes, the presidential election process is restrictive. That’s as it should be

Spain vs Germany has gone into extra time. This match is becoming a real Odyssey.

I'm available for lots of Classical related football commentary.

I'm watching Spain vs Germany in the women's Euros. Spain decided to go to war so they subbed on Athena. Germany's response was to add some magic by bringing on Cerci. I'm hoping the teams have players called Hera and Artemis to bring on later.

For those who don't know me, I teach Classics.

Mary Hannifan says it would be an "insult" to the presidency if Fianna Fail don't run a candidate. Of course, this has nothing to do with her own ambition to run. Nope.

The media are to blame for some of this candidate nonsense as well. Many outlets decide to throw out any old name as a potential runner.

Of course Michael Flatley is not the first to show a lack of knowledge about the role of the president. We already had to listen to Conor McGregor's presidential fantasies.
