Contrary to the now standard Arabic pronunciation apparently in the mid third century AH in Kufa, pronunciations with ʾimālah of ʾalifāt maqṣūrah spelled with yāʾ was still widely considered 'good' and 'eloquent'.

If you try to #translate "Two hundred and sixty four thousand, and five hundred and twenty one" to #german using #deepl, it will embezzle one, while at the same time showing the number correctly in digits.
I couldn't reproduce this in any of the other five languages that I can decipher.

The great Dr Jane Goodall, ethologist and campaigner for great apes and much else, has died at the age of 91.

She loved this _Far Side_ cartoon, and wrote a forward for a later Gary Larson collection.

@jef I saw a documentary of its making and artists behind the project. It was amazing. Only recently did I watch some of the original series, but in the eighties there was an animated series based on the story and theme.

Can't overstate how much Israelis feel that they've been abandoned by the entire world and must fend for themselves.

(It's as if the thousand-pound bombs delivered through the war and US warships actively defending Israel simply... didn't exist)
