(of course i don't believe that's true. ai has a shelf-life and fundamental limitations so we'll just have wasted a lot of time, drained a lot of talent out of the industry, sidelined a whole generation of junior engineers, and wrought ecological and environmental havoc. y'know, just small stuff!)

the original point here is absolutely fascinating. i'm just writing what i know, which is that tech seems happy to cannibalize itself and completely oblivious to the fact that if they're right and AI continues getting better forever, we'll have written ourselves out of our nice jobs

I keep hearing such good things about Between Two Fires, but haven't grabbed it yet. I read two of Christopher Buehlman's other books this year (The Blacktongue Thief, and it's recently released prequel The Daughters' War) and they were some of my favs that I've read in the past several years

ughh I love tower dungeon's art. it's so simple and effective. was also a fan of BLAME! but the art in TD feels refined (and so far the plot feels more...like it exists)

as an indecisive/unsure person, it's weird to feel *so certain* about something, but i do: ai companies are not going to make it long term. the pace is unsustainable already and they're going to just keep needing more more more. they already can't monetize enough, and the novelty will only decrease

the doomer thinking buys into the idea that AI is "inevitable" and "here to stay" and personally i firmly reject that idea. the costs are high, and AI companies are lighting piles of money on fire as they desperately try to convince us that they are necessary. the bill comes due at some point
