I’m pretty sure this is being paid for by the guests who bought tickets and by the astronomically high initiation fees and yearly dues that Mar-a-Lago club members pay and Mar-a-Lago club membership remarkable stable.

Mar-a-Lago is a membership club. The membership is supposed to be quite expensive, with an initiation fee of around one million dollars and yearly dues of $20,000. The latter actually aren't that high; it’s about what I pay at my country club, tho mine has a full golf course.

The Mar-a-Lago guests probably paid a lot more for the New Year’s festivities.

Okay, this I don’t get. What does this have to do with one another? We had my company’s Christmas party a few weeks ago at my country club, and yes, there was plenty of high-quality food at the buffet. That’s kind of normal at those places. I paid over $240 per employee for food and drinks.

Exiling her was easier there was legal merrit for that.

Yes and a few people will spend the rest of their life's in prison for stupid shit they did and that's as it should be she got off easy.

They’re talking about a wealth tax, not income taxes. But since wealth taxes would be unconstitutional, it’s a moot point anyway, and their math is way off.

ICE is paid by the federal government, since immigration enforcement is a core federal function. Education is only a peripheral federal issue.
December 31, 2025 at 5:57 PM
How would that even work for owners of equity or property they don’t intend to sell, like businesses or IP?
December 31, 2025 at 3:53 AM
No they leave for required time to no be counted as California residents
December 30, 2025 at 8:08 PM
Selling their holdings? Why would they? But will some leave the state for a majority of the year to stop being residents for tax purposes? Almost certainly. It would be the highest wealth tax by far in the world, with no write-offs for capital gains losses? Yep.
December 30, 2025 at 7:37 PM
Again, a 5% wealth tax on your net worth, even on unrealized net worth, with no clear mechanism for write off should unrealized gains decrease after having been taxed, is not a marginal tax issue.
December 30, 2025 at 5:55 PM
A tax on 5% of your net worth is not the same as a slightly higher income tax on your income in that year, that's not semantics that are enormous differences
December 30, 2025 at 5:52 PM
No, it's a tax on income.
December 30, 2025 at 9:07 AM
Massachusetts doesn't have a wealth tax.
December 29, 2025 at 7:40 PM
I mean, one of the highest wealth taxes in the world has not been tried, and it could truly be a reason for many of them to leave.
December 29, 2025 at 8:10 AM
How would you get rid of billionaires entirely, just out of interest? And, of course, I mean within the confines of the law and the Constitution and without some imaginary socialist revolution.
December 27, 2025 at 4:51 PM
Because they don't want to part with 5% of their net worth?
December 27, 2025 at 1:56 PM
I mean, a 5% wealth tax is ridiculously high and would be the highest wealth tax in the world by far.

As a landlord who has financed the building of units in the past myself, a stable, if not spectacular, ROI is kind of my goal, just as it is for asset managers.
December 26, 2025 at 2:32 PM
Well, if you pay all your costs and still don’t get at least a higher return than you could get from investing in riskless government bonds, then why would you finance housing with your capital?
December 26, 2025 at 2:32 PM
Good for them, but I fear that the coming correction will wipe out a lot of those gains. It will also be a good opportunity to buy into tech at or near bottom prices.
December 26, 2025 at 2:03 PM
Isn’t part of it also because that’s where your brain is, which is what makes you a conscious being?
