Turns out it's impoasible to portray capitalism in *any way* without it turning into a critique

If the proposition is to tax childless people more now because in X years the global birth rate will fall below replacement then that's silly. If it's because you're afraid your country's pension system won't work in 50 years then there is a very easy solution to that and it's called immigration

That's exactly what my "this is one of those situations" was trying to cut off at the pass - what's your projection on that "eventually"? In how many generations? We're quite a way away from the global birth rate falling below replacement, and if it did it's not irreversible like climate change is.

Also any discussion like this is so inherently racist it boggles the mind. About 14% of the population is illiterate (that's almost a billion people), half of them live in Southern Asia. Maybe provide for them instead of trying to increase birth rates in Western countries by 0.1%

Unless the goal isn't having more people meaningfully contribute to our society but more people of the "correct kind"

Ensuring there will be a planet to even raise kids on in 100 years is actually objectively the best long term pro-natalist policy.

Birth rates are not a pressing problem. We're fine. We'll be fine for quite some time. This is, in fact, one of those situations where any resources you'd want to focus on increasing the number of children should rather be allocated to making sure the lives of existing children don't fucking suck

All you need to know is that the bad vibes you get from looking at him are exactly correct

I'm 99% sure this already came up and @questauthority.bsky.social had a thread explaining that no, you cannot, but I can't find it now since the search seems to be broken

Angela is a theoretical physicist, I don't see what the issue with that would be?

I think that if you're allowed to live in a castle in the year of our lord 2025 then I must be allowed to lay siege to it. It's only fair.

Okay, the second one is gorgeous, I love it.

In the first one I'm not sure I love how they did my boy Mort (I assume it's him) dirty

I think this is wistfulness because Vetinari is competent and at least knows what he's doing, unlike seemingly everybody near power in the real world

Why are they so obsessed with Snuff though? Putting "author of Snuff" on Colour of Magic is so absurdly funny to me

I mean, the Mort one is decent?

He is living breathing proof against his own thesis that good education is the solution to society's woes

No you see that's because you're just so much less educated than Steven Pinker, obviously, duh
