To give some context, it isn't that old DQ fans don't want these accessibility options and features, it's that in DQ7R, you can't turn some of them off, like you could in the HD-2D games.

I've seen the term gatekeeping thrown around a lot, but I don't think it is, in this case.

The HD-2D remakes of 1-3 actually maintain their difficulty and friction. I noticed that a lot of new fans did not enjoy them, while the rest of us loved them. Especially DQ2R.

I feel like this happened to Monster Hunter recently too lol

I saw a post a few days ago in the JRPG subreddit about why the first dungeon/boss is so difficult in DQ8 for the PS2. Queue people giving strategies and teaching the poster on how to use the Tension system.

DQ games being seen as easy is a recent trend.

I will add that when I played through the demo, I did find it engaging, so it should be fine.

It's kinda surprising, because the HD-2D remakes we got still have a ton of friction lmao

But a lot of newcomers also bounced off of them because of that, so fair enough lol
