When I visit a place famous in the Ancient World I try to visualize what it was like when the place made a name for itself. In Alexandria I visited the site of the Pharos, the great lighthouse. The Qaitbay fort was built over the stump of the fallen tower, here it is in the context of what was.

Small red jewels, touched by winter’s breath,
Crystalline white edges softly dressed.
Beneath the sun, a gently glinting sheen,
Scarlet berries in the frosty green.

The light in Fairbanks around the winter solstice.
A low sun, long shadows, and a brief stretch of color before the day fades out.

From the vantage point of the Niblet I captured this dramatic scene: Mount Assiniboine cloaked in the storm's embrace, as the sun struggled to pierce through the heavy clouds. The first snowflakes of the season danced in the wind

If there’s one thing that photos don’t do justice, it’s meteors. IRL it’s like “Oh! There’s one!” but in the photo it just looks like a little lens scratch 🤷‍♂️ but anyway, here’s my best effort from the Geminids on Saturday night.
