An absolutely shocking headline and not what I expected from a Labour government.

In case anyone was under any kind of illusion. What remains of Gaza is a huge, ramshackle refugee camp condemned to be totally reliant on aid for bare survival, in which civilians constantly risk being killed, including families looking for firewood.

The diplomatic "achievement" of the ceasefire was to recalibrate the tempo of the genocide sufficiently to get it off the front pages and the news bulletins, thus alleviating the political pressure on Israel's western accomplices.

Central to the 2010s Legitimate Concerns discourse that paved the way for our current pre-fascist moment was the refusal to acknowledge that these "concerns" were based on demonstrable fictions, filtered through socially constructed prejudices. I.e. they were not, in fact, "legitimate".

Very long thread: As with many of Labour's anti-immigration policies, this isn't new. British police have been stationed in other countries for this purpose for a long time
It does however show how Labour is pushing more on anti-immigration than previous governments. 1/

Over 70% of them are hosted by low- and middle-income countries.

🇬🇧 548k refugees

It is not refugees who tear our country apart, it is the mainstreaming of far right policies. And that’s a risk to all of us.

The only Legitimate Concerns about asylum seekers are concerns for their well being and safety. For a rich country like ours to incessantly whine about these people as if we are their victims is perhaps the single most pathetic spectacle in British politics over the past quarter century.
No, I'd say it's racists and those pandering to them.
