This was an old, OLD semi-official hand-signal at work. It meant "Draw ahead and await signal to set back onto wrong line via crossover". I didn't know it was so widespread in use.

ISTR something similar from a mid-80s "Janes All the World's Aircraft". The envelope was spherical, supported c90% of the craft's weight and was designed to rotate around a transverse horizontal axis, generating lift by "the Van Dusen Effect" IIRC, while the gondola hung from the main bearings

The one that messes with my head is a certain TV sci-fi show, made in the 70s and set in the near future. It had the setting date in the title, and that date is now as far in the past as it was in the future when the show was made (IYSWIM)...

...and the ships still don't look dated.

All the way home from Dresden by train: no sleepers, no redeye overnight and no flight. Been there many times, but this is the first time we've tried such an ambitious jaunt. It's amazing what you can do with a little planning, imagination, and of course some sensible high-speed rail infrastructure.

If you see this, post a ship

Nostalgia for the future that wasn't....sigh. Wanted to use a pic of my own rather than a Google trawl.

What you like isn't necessarily all you have to do. I have a variety of interests reflected in my follows both here and at the Dead Parrot site. I often wonder what the TTRPG folks make of my HS2 and other rail ops rants, or narrow gauge natterings, or vice versa... Have a schmalspur dampflok or 2

But if a mere funicular railway doesn't do it for you, why not take a boat trip...along a funicular railway? The Elblag Canal in Poland doesn't hold with old-fashioned locks...

Arguably the funkiest funicular is the Dresden Standseil-schwebebahn, a funicular suspended monorail (danglebahn to some)
