Cycling through it
📍Glenroy, Naarm/Melbourne, Aus
This is my assessment of a Hungry Jacks in Glenroy:
❌ HJs is on the BDS list
❌ a drivethru across a bi-directional bike path
❌ a single story building 250m from a Zone 1 train station

I very much want this section of pedestrian path built. I would love #merribek council to go onto this.

Glenroy Festival is on Sunday 4 May! I won’t be around fixing bikes this year as I’m seeing Jesus Christ Superstar, but @merri-bekbug.bsky.social will be!

Hilton St is now 40km/h, but only next to the cemeteries, high school, and old folks home

There’s something so fulfilling about reading some information that you hadn’t considered before - mining is stealing jobs from the house building market

Oh dear, a puff piece from CLG, could it be Albover already?

Some good reporting here on Vic Labor’s atrocious tower teardown. Not releasing costs to repair the towers, and also replacing public housing with social housing, is showing this to be a stitch up by Purple Labor’s real estate donors

The only mention of budgets in this article that fawns over private school but provides no context that private schools are being given public money and as a result 98% of public schools are funded below the School Resource Standard.

No one told me a maugean skate is essentially a long-nosed sting ray. Just look at this little guy!

In Glenroy, almost none of the bus stops have shelter or places to sit, so someone put a plastic chair at this bus stop on Melbourne Avenue. How sad that the people are made to fill the accessibility gaps in our infrequent bus services that @victorianlabor.bsky.social ignore.

Curb extensions! Love this explainer from 07sketches. In Melbpurne we tend to just have a No Stopping zone a car length from crossings, but a curb extension has the added benefit of shortening the crossing distance.

My favourite part of yesterday's ride. A young family waving to us all passing by and getting a shower of jingly bells in return. I love seeing this support from the community @portphillipbug.aus.social.ap.brid.gy @criticalmassmelb.bsky.social

Apleasure to ride yesterday with about 50 other riders down to the Catani Gardens

Thanks for organising @criticalmassmelb.bsky.social and @portphillipbug.aus.social.ap.brid.gy

Respect to these two for using the e-bike power to make two rides home easier (Yes they moved to single file when there were oncoming riders) 🚲

Royal Pde, Parkville. Tuesday morning around 7:45am. Surely this is equally disliked by drivers AND riders, no? 🚲

The worst part of my ride home (at x2 speed). What I’m calling the ‘Hilton Street gap’. About 300 metres between 2 shared user paths.

A fun obstacle in the bike lane this morning. Peel St, North Melbourne
November 21, 2024 at 10:24 AM
(From Henk Swarttouw) look at these line treatments that make the lane seem narrower to encourage cars to slow to 30kph
November 20, 2024 at 7:46 AM
Surprised to see a raised crossing treatment/wombat crossing at the crossing of Little Lonsdale and Spencer street when there is certainly heavier pedestrian traffic in other parts of the CBD where this would be handy (e.g., every vehicle entry to little bourke street)
