Don't know what sorta setting you're making, but yes.
If there is one--okay AMONG the things I dislike about 5e is the lack of true decisions to make during creation. Even something like a simple, weaker bonus feat and +1 to a ability score/skill based on your lifepath goes a long way.

I alone had THREE natural 1s today.
