It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of our founder, colleague, mentor and friend, Professor Sir John Gurdon. His vision and dedication will continue to inspire generations of scientists.

I felt smarter every single time I interacted with him.
His wisdom and enthusiasm were so communicative.
The way he placed trust in you was unique.
A giant scientist, a giant human being.
I miss you Jochen.

I still can't believe this has happened 🥹
Working with Jochen during these past 6 years has been pure joy...I miss him so much and still feel devastated that I could not say a proper goodbye (and that he can't even see our tiny jewel in the making).

Jochen was a brilliant and visionary scientist who inspired me and so many others. His creativity blew my mind more than once and his generous advice early on in my career was extremely useful. How lucky I feel to have met him.

With deep sadness, we share that Prof. Jochen Guck, Director at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light passed away on October 3. His visionary work bridged physics and medicine. We have lost a brilliant scientist and dear friend.

My very dear Jochen Guck, has just passed away and yet I cannot believe it 🥹
Jochen is one of the most brilliant scientist I had ever met, a human being with unlimited qualities, brave and caring, positive (always) and full of ressources, helpful and with - always - the best advices.

I feel so proud to have already published our science with him (and to soon publish with him accompanying me/us).
Shocked by this loss, deeply saddened. Rest in peace Jochen.

A wise person who inspired me so much and who will continue to inspire me.
There will be so many memories from our very recent yet tight collaboration...but the one that comes to my mind is having a hard time beating him at Ping-pong / Tischtennis during an EMBO workshop at Les Houches 😢

Check out the latest opus of our long-lasting collaboration with the team of A.Klymchenko, and N.Anton, just published in #NanoscaleAdvances: how "green" chemistry can be used to provide specificity of targeting to nanoemulsions.

Cancer cells are notoriously plastic, but what triggers the changes in cell state? In our new Nature (@nature.com)‬ paper, Miranda Hunter (@mrndhntr.bsky.social‬) found that mechanical pressure is a key to this switch. Check it out here: go.nature.com/47iwDm2

- the second one in July/August in #Newport, #RhodeIsland, on #Angiogenesis, chaired by @karinayaniv.bsky.social & A.Eichmann
Both of them were highly enjoyable, and I can only encourage young fellows to join one of these whenever they can.
