🏔️ My Third Act: living in Alaska
📍A Pawnee (Kitkehahki) guest on the Dena'ina lands.

💖 My things are arts & sciences. I like to think, read, write. Sometimes lecture. Usually daydreaming.

🦬 Originally from Oklahoma.
Halloween flashback (1983), somewhere in Oklahoma. I remember well being one of these crazy teenagers. We did our best not to waste our youth 💖

Later, the regular gang (some of whom are not pictured here) headed off to our weekly ritual: the midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show💃🏻

What a ginger! LEO (pastel on paper, 8x8) by Sarah Rose won an honorable mention in the current issue of Artists Magazine. I could look at this for hours.

Cats are so wonderful 😽💖

Saw this magnificent painting in the current issue of Artists Magazine. SURREPTITIOUS GAZE (oil on canvas, 18 x 24) by Linda Lucas Hardy understandably won "Top Cat." 🐱🖌️🎨

Just found out about Tubi's synthwave library. I had no idea that the HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, already a timeless classic, could be improved. But I was wrong.

One of the dozens of images I took last week of Blackstone Glacier (Blackstone Bay, Prince William Sound, Alaska).

For scale, imagine a human standing or sitting on the water next to the glacier. Seriously, tho, all glaciers are awesome. But Blackstone might be my favorite so far.

You've been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who's coming to save you?

They'll find me by pure chance.

All are multiple rewatches except for TWO OR THREE THINGS I KNOW ABOUT HER, which I've only seen once before.

TO BE OR NOT TO BE is one of my all-time faves, maybe in my top five. I nearly worship Jack Benny, and he certainly carries this film 💞🕯️

CECIL (2019), cheesy & fun kid flick

KIM'S VIDEO (2023), an odd doc begging to be a kickass feature film

1982: GREATEST GEEK YEAR EVER! (2022). >2hr doc almost convinced me the mainstream 80s weren't the wasteland that I experienced

Rewatched BARBIE (2023)

My physical book goals for June and July. First up - The Space Barons: Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and the Quest to Colonize the Cosmos by Christian Davenport (bookclub pick) & Barry Diller's Who Knew. I'll read any Hollywood book, and based on excerpts, I'm really looking forward to his autobiography.

I didn't take Brian Wilson & The Beach Boys seriously until 1990, when I found out that Andy Lippincott was a fan.

Andy was fiction, yet I appreciate that he prompted me to give Wilson a serious listen.

So, interestingly, Garry Trudeau (and not The Beatles) was my gateway to The Beach Boys.

Unfortunately, today's opera, Il Barbiere di Siviglia / The Barber of Seville (streaming from The Met to Alaska), had technical and we were refunded our tickets. But not before I saw & heard the magic that is Aigul Akhmetshina. She is AMAZING 😍. In fact, the entire cast was lit.

Didn't finish today's selection for one of my #Anchorage bookclubs. But I will!

The discussion was so interesting and lively. I think Terkel would be proud🕯️.

Also, reading about people's work experiences in the '70s definitely reminds us why the U.S. & NDN Country need workplace protections.
