A deep interest in the pre-Windows home computer revolution, specifically the 8-bit, Commodore, and Amiga scene that defined that period of immense technological change for the home computer user.
Followed Ben Eater's instructions on creating a computer clock ... feel like I'm a monkey poking the outlet with a wire coat hanger .. BUT I am learning.

Any of you ever name all your kids after the IC chips in an Amiga?

This Amiga was an unmodified original with Kickstart 1.2 installed. It now works with the DiagROM v2 and Kickstart 1.3

I used @theretrochannel.bsky.social 's excellent video as a tutorial to make the modifications.

I have a Commodore Amiga 500 Rev 5 board and in order to upgrade to newer ROMs or to use a PROM, I need to make modifications to deal with the OOPS shown in the schematic.

Cut trace on each side of pin 31 and bodge Agnus, Kickstart, and the 68K together.

IT ARRIVED!!!

The New Commodore 64 Ultimate arrived. So far, nicely done! Works well, easy to get start going. Very nice look and feel. Very retro with the manual, the "tape", even the box! So funny and cool!

Compare my 1984 version to the 2025 version!

The Commodore Amiga 3000 featured on the cover of Byte magazine May 1990. A 68030 with 600x400 "high-res" flicker free.

Full article.

Difficult finding a good SID chip. No longer made and the prices for existing ones quite high (especially with the Tariff Tax). I've been trying alternatives for my 326298 Rev A C64.

Soldered this monster SIDKick Pico PWM, checked that the keyboard fits and it sounds great!! WOW good. $15 and a Pi

And there were MORE! 😁

No flexing here!! That Amiga keyboard is SOLID!

The things (amount of screws) that I'll do just to get the Caps Lock Key to light up on a perfectly good and working Commodore Amiga keyboard.

It is so pretty now.

This is one of those older 326298 Rev A C64s with the 5-pin video out. People curse at these all the time, usually because of the lower quality video output. So I did the s-video mod, taking the audio-in pin to output chroma

It's like your drunk step father won't let you play with the neighborhood kids.

No, I can't buy this new anywhere else. #stupidtariff

It's almost like when I started browsing the web 30 years ago.

Though my first web browser was Amosaic, I had graduated to iBrowse way back then.

What was the first web browser you used?

If the Commodores are fighting over who owns the Commodore.

I wonder who owns the the Amiga / Amiga Corporation ?

First MOD player install, HippoPlayer. I will say that it was nice and easy. Seems to play a wide variety of formats. Really basic looking .. but the sound is great! Easy to use.

Working on and Amiga 1000 Microbotics StarBoard 2 expansion unit. Upon opening it up .. there's an old corroded battery. 😳

Those batteries get you every time. Luckily, I don't think there is much damage.

If you have old machines with batteries. Check them!

I find that sellers are just poorly packaging things.

Throw in a couple pieces of cardboard and a scrap of bubble wrap and ship it! 🤨

Getting closer!!

Giddy giddy giddy. Not acting my age!

Commodore 64 Ultimate.

The Commodore 1950 is ALIVE!!!

I replaced IC402, a diode, and a few capacitors. Everything outlined in a blue square.

Everything circled in green tested good. Those circled in red tested bad.

Though I think the real culprit was just one capacitor, C410.

Oh what a feeling!!!

The combination of xdftool (pip install xdftool) and greaseweasel is a perfect solution for manipulating .adf virtual disks & then writing adf files to a physical floppy disk!

(yes, of course, I could just skip all this and just ftp to Aminet and download the file directly from my Amiga)
