So then let it die.

Isn't this supposed to be the basic tenet of our system? Let the markets decide? If your product can't be profitable without theft, then how is it different from somebody on a street corner selling pirated DVDs?

At least I got everything else done but the ride. So close! Tonight it’ll be a 9:30 bedtime.

Set my alarm for 4:45 to get an early start on my routine as I promised myself then sabotaged that by going to bed at 10:45. Woke up exhausted and no ride today. Tomorrow will be better

The Joy of Racing Yourself

In this entry I realize I am almost completely recovered from August's Covid infection - recovered enough to race my past self in many different ways.

Definitely a true autumn ride today. Cool, rainy and extra dark with leaves falling along the way. Still lovely just the same. #cycling

Now I’m all nostalgic for the <blink> element. Good times!

The sky is barely getting light on my morning rides now. Still finding ways to enjoy them. Today I used my Garmin to race my past self on this course and could see how ahead I was getting. Beat him by 12 minutes! #cycling

This sounds really interesting. As an aside, the building I currently work in has a small piece of the wall from the building where Banting and Best had their lab on display. It’s a cool connection to the past.

It felt weird but nice to be out in the warm sun. Bonus, after over a week my quicker bike has its tires back and now tubeless after the last pair got cut up by trail construction debris. #cycling

Still a long way from my Covid era record of over 18 months without even riding in a motor vehicle. Everywhere I went during that time was under my own power.

This is wild. I just realized that it’s not just been over 20 years since I owned a car. I haven’t even been behind the wheel of one - even a rental - for 3 years.

LOOK AT THIS AMAZING NEWS!!! This is some of my favourite news of 2025.

There have been two hosts in the history of Reading Rainbow. The Legend of Literacy, LeVar Burton! And... me, Mychal Threets, a librarian 🥹🤯

I am a reader, a librarian because LeVar Burton and Reading Rainbow made us believe and see we belong in books, we belong everywhere ✨

Smiling Mychal with hands raised wears an outer space shirt in a library. It is a still from an episode of Reading Rainbow. LeVar Burton smiles with hands behind his head as he lies down on a colorful pile of books. ENEMY PIE book rests on his chest.

The feeling on these autumn morning rides is so different. Slower and almost melancholy. My friend Summer is leaving. #cycling

Autumn is definitely here. It was the first morning I wished I had gloves and long sleeves. Funny how different days I see different animals. For a while it was mostly skunks, then deer and one day all I saw was a coyote. Today there were so many rabbits and a lovely heron. #cycling

Another Kind of Early Morning Coffee Ride

Today I talk about (and show in video) what it's like to focus on a priority that is not cycling as quickly as possible, and instead enjoying the destination *and* the ride.

This morning’s #coffeeoutside ride. Out the door early on a Sunday to enjoy the last of the good weather. Would definitely do again #cycling

Not all coffee rides are created equal. This one is not for weight weenies. The mug itself weighs about 500g. #cycling
A bike with pannier attached leans against a picnic table. A coffee mug sits on the table. The table is on grass and next to trees. A trangia alcohol stove with a pot on top sits next to a mug with an aeropress on it ready to make coffee A half a mug of strong coffee sits on the picnic table. A man in a bike helmet, round glasses and green jersey enjoys a cup of coffee.

Looks like the YouTube clip got restarted somehow then before we woke up, YouTube started playing a Taskmaster episode.

I'm blaming the cat, personally, though the keyboard might've been tough for him to get to. The only other explanation is "Ghost" and I'm pretty sure that's not the case.

Thanks to Mitchell & Webb's "Sweary Aussie Drama", @daeganl.bsky.social and I started watching "Territory" but then went back to a clip from M&W to confirm. Then we went to bed, leaving the computer on. At 4:00 AM we all wake to "It's MY FARKIN' FARM!" followed by the Taskmaster theme.

The other one I like is squash the clove and shake it inside two metal bowls. Everything falls right off.
