The Thierry Henry conundrum in 2009 was a tough time

I hate it and love it as an Irish Arsenal fan 😅

Same as me apart from furlong over fagerson & kinghorn over Keenan

Surely this highlights some sort of mental block given their -11xG performance in the 5 games that has left them knocked out of the cups this year?

Yeah he was pretty terrible across the tie, have to agree. I think I’m just in my feelings about how quickly the media/fans change their tune about players (reminds me of my boy ode)

I wouldn’t anyways considering how incredible he’s been this year. Much the same reason I wouldn’t slag off Liverpool either for their consistent brilliance

I think we just fundamentally disagree on the point of football. I watch it and am a fan for enjoyment, which is increased when you win things. I enjoy watching Arsenal win most matches they play now, playing in champions league etc. I’m happy with arteta because of that.

I’ve never said that, I’d love to win more trophies. But I don’t think football is just pointless if my club doesn’t. Arsenal haven’t a chance of winning the title, so should I just not bother watching the United game later?
March 9, 2025 at 9:45 AM
Not really, it’s about enjoyment, entertainment, a sense of belonging/community I’d argue. I’d guess Brighton & Bournemouth fans are delighted at the minute but their clubs haven’t won a major trophy ever. Villa haven’t won a major trophy since 1996, but their fans seemed happy at Brugge last week.

I agree it’s not ideal but what can ya do, that’s football. City were better than Arsenal the last two years, Liverpool are better this year. I’d love if they won more trophies, but I enjoy watching this team more than the bunch that won 4 fa cups in 7 years. As Barney’s excellent article said…

Yes, but everyone does. He has spent considerably less than teams that were considerably better than Arsenal at the time he took over, and has made Arsenal better than most of them (city excluded). He has improved Arsenal to a level not seen in 20 years, while spending less than most of their rivals

When arteta joined*

They’ve spent less than spurs, Chelsea, United and city since he’s taken over. Yes Liverpool have spent about 100m less, but they already had world class players who are still at the club like VVD, Trent, Alisson & Salah when Arteta.

Yeah, tend to agree. Just worried about shooting in the squad, sometimes wish we’d have someone to take 18-25 yard potshots regularly when we struggle against low blocks & hope for the best. Although all statistical metrics probably advise against that!

Is Semenyo the more “sure bet”? I suppose the price would depend on Bournemouth’s finishing position, Europe or not

What was the xG on the goal? Was an open goal…
February 5, 2025 at 9:00 PM
I just said the same thing. Not just this week imo, the season as a whole. I think he’s possibly the Arsenal player who’s regressed most from last season (albeit he set very high standards then)
