In honour of Usman’s legacy, the Yusufu Bala Usman Institute will be hosting a symposium entitled History as Praxis: Yusufu Bala Usman 20 Years After on Saturday 20 September 2025 from 10am to 5pm (Nigerian Time).

On 24 September 2005, friend of the George Padmore Institute (GPI) Yusufu Bala Usman sadly passed away. Usman was a Nigerian politician, historian and radical academic whose major work ‘For the Liberation of Nigeria’ was published by New Beacon Books in 1979.
