They wanna fight a war where the enemy isn't allowed to fight back

I think it's a form of sunk cost fallacy. Even if they think there will be a reckoning once Trump's gone, they're already on that list. And also they can cling to a fantasy of 'winning' the culture war to avoid that reckoning altogether
