Infectious Diseases doctor (at UCLH) and academic (at UCL). Research focuses on immune responses to TB and leprosy, but I'm also involved in too many other projects I probably shouldn't be...

It is soulless and ridiculous.

One day I hope all the players after scoring a goal do the reverse, and all run straight into the manager's technical area, and celebrate only in there! 😅

Yeah was always going to take one match winning performance for those outside the club to sit up and take notice! #CFC

Didn't know there were different brands now. Mechanism of action (des cry in these tables) feels quite black box!

Yeah I did wonder if it would affect Pubmed functionality. I suspect it largely runs itself and it is working fine. However you're right we should consider alternatives. Europe PMC works great

Such a wild story!

3 human cases of NDM-CRE likely acquired from their respective pets who likely acquired it from a veterinary hospital outbreak!

Big reason for animal and human cases to be compared

Good point. I am very happy to ignore / not see popular political content.

Happy it's there for the many that want to follow it, but personally I can't influence it and just stirs needless emotions in an otherwise already busy day!

Yes agree. Cost though is a difficult thing to critique, cos the price will never come down unless the technology is implemented more widely. So we need to foremost make a judgement on utility, then the economics will follow. That's just a personal opinion, so I could be wide of the mark.

Given how long Elizabeth Line took to build, it may take a while! 😅

Single centre, but evidence for use of metagenomics in clinical practice is building.

Discrpanacy between current gold standard diagnostics is intriguing. Which is the false +ve or -ve result?

Interesting to see if / how impacts clinical practice, including cost-benefit analysis

Host-directed therapies for infectious disease are here & coming!

Simple equation proposed to consider best interventions:
⭐ Microorganism + immune response = clinical presentation/status ⭐

Will require futuristic-sounding real-time diagnostics = exciting!
