So far one of the best things about GrapheneOS is that holding down the power button opens the shutdown menu (as it used to on Android before Google fully embraced shoving shit sandwiches down users' throats)

That's a very good rate. Fast chargers near me charge around $.50/KWh, and we get 3.3 miles per KWh, so 250 miles ~= $38

Don't encourage the lunatics waiting for The Raptor

They still do it here because running their own atproto server would be way too much work.

TBF, there was a parade of tanks too.

I'll add that in the recent past in the richest parts of the world, politics hasn't been under overwhelming obligation to be constrained by physics and biology, but for most of history it was, and in the very near future it will be again.

Modest and gradual actions have not been sufficiently implemented while the opportunity existed.

There is no longer any way that the future can emerge in a continuous way from the present. I don’t like this but it’s true.

Physics and biology are under no obligation to be politically moderate.

When the mafia tells you they are trying to "fix" something it isn't the same thing as when a mechanic says that.

Carbon capture is the filtered cigarette of our time

_Somebody_ has to run a serious campaign on this (if only so the media stops so enthusiastically accepting the framing that centrism is leftism).

100%

The "There are good people in [place]" argument works for traditional wars too. There are good people in Russia. Despite that fact, the Russian state is doing extremely bad shit that must be stopped (by violence if no other means are adequate).

I conclude that Dr Goodall was a member of the reality-based community.

On the flip side of that coin, I didn't see anyone claim she was the actual Pope.

The really scary part isn't even that number, it's living in a culture so incorrigibly suicidally insane that we work hard to make it happen.

TAM of $82B. Onion provides 2500% of it.

Sure. Checks out by silicon valley standards.

Do you have any reason to believe Cruz would object to fraying the national fabric on any grounds other than "this specific method of fraying it is bad because it also reduces the total power wielded by my faction" ?

I think we'd quickly find that the answer to "what if we could do everything we want to do with AI without increasing fuel demand?" is the investors would stop being interested in doing things with AI.

Occasionally "amazing" (in the literal not inherently positive sense), but never "friendly neighborhood"

The idea that any of the general populace has ever wanted their soldiers deployed in their own streets (unless they are being invaded by someone else's soldiers) is shockingly frothing madness, even by the standards of the modern internet.

This morning had rainbows thrown by patchy ground fog rising from brightly lit frost on tall grass.

It also had some cows where they shouldn't be, so if you want some excitement with your beauty, this fog had you covered.

It's a much lesser question wha (if anything) we do with the tech. There may be some good things we can do. We won't do them if we keep letting people with a long, repeatedly proven track record of going all in to get rich quick on tulip madness make the investment choices.
grahamiancummins.bsky.social
The most important thing about AI is that after the investment bubble bursts, the class of idiots and conmen that bet the farm on it (many of whom also tried to bet the farm on crypto etc) stop being the people we let decide how our whole society allocates resources.

Personally I agree. (I spent a lot of my childhood in or near tiny MT towns). I think there's also a lot to be said for walkable urbanism, though, where you put a lot of stuff close together, rather than just, you know, having less stuff.

"Government shouldn't pick winners and losers" has always openly meant "government must pick fossil fuel as the winners" since the days of Standard Oil.

Some of our politics have changed in the new millennium, but not that part.

they’re illegally sending troops from more and more states to occupy my fucking city because a bunch of shitass ICE chumps can’t tolerate a person in an inflatable frog costume legally gyrating at them in front of a single building they lease from us, keep it fucking shut down, fuck these people
gravitysra1nbow.bsky.social
Okay. Well, if Trump is going to attempt legal end-arounds like federalizing the NG of GOP states to send them to Dem states over the objections of governors and courts, I think the Democrats should just keep the federal government shut down indefinitely.
