1. A thread about the very serious young woman who told me off for allowing my learning disabled eight year old daughter to dance in front of the big screens at a modern art installation.

From seeing someone on mounjaro, it has transformed their life, altho does require care about what you eat too. I think it may be a game changer for public health

Not just kids playing here either. I first read the headline thinking how stupid but having heard the reality I think it's the right decision and those complainers are not nimbys. This is not like someone moving next door to church bells and complaining.

Was my local area before moved. Not sure it's as clear cut as that.

Disappointing. Bill Maher is a smug establishment Johnny-come-lately, and Graham Lineham has his measure in a recent post.

..with people desperate for answers, Chronic Lyme Disease (CLD) often blamed with scant evidence. The problem? While Lyme disease is real, testable, & eminently treatable, there's no evidence that CLD exists, plenty it doesn't, as @gorskon.bsky.social writes

Chronic Lyme disease: Fake diagnosis, not fake disease
Believe it or not, an encounter on Twitter actually changed Dr. Gorski's mind. Chronic Lyme disease is a fake diagnosis, not a fake disease.

All that work to introduce a newborn screen to identify deaf kids early, jeopardised by this decision.

move to a review of protocols and training ( a paper based checklist) with no real life cases. Purely inputs not outputs. It was shocking how many senior figures were able to dismiss strongly expressed concerns.

I was one of those working there flagging up the dangers. We had for several years done samples of real life ABR tests in all services and found serious problems. PHE (as was) then decided that this diagnostic testing was no longer the responsibility of the screening programme and the QA could ...

Did the CSO see this report? If so why did she fail to act on the clear warnings?

The push from charities and patient groups for new routine screening is well intentioned but Wilson and Jungner's criteria are still.the best guide, and especially in neonates. The picture can change when better tests are developed .
grahamsutton.bsky.social
I wish the downsides of screening were better understood. It can cause harm because tests are imperfect

This is a really good piece on the risks of over-screening and why it's harmful. I know the relevant charities, celebs and pressure groups will lose their shit, but it sounds as though the NHS is going to stand by the evidence. www.thetimes.com/article/700d...

Despite campaigners’ pleas for more checks, experts fear widespread screening risks harming hundreds of thousands of men unnecessarily
