I had the honor of conducting research for Henry Johnson’s posthumous receipt of the Medal of Honor. Ferocious when he needed to be and beyond courageous. I look forward to the day when his name is restored to this base.
This Army birthday I’m thinking of Medal of Honor recipient Pvt Henry Johnson of the 369th NY National Guard (known as the Harlem Hellfighters). The 369th served more days in the WWI trenches than an other US unit, took more casualties also. DOD just stripped Johnson’s name off Ft. Polk.
