It's great that some of the charges against journalist @bubbaprog.xyz were thrown out. We needed some good news.

We wrote last year about why the rest should be tossed too. It's not journalists' job to keep corporations' secrets, and it's not computer fraud when they report what they find online.

New Hampshire has a Right of Revolution clause:

“...Whenever the ends of government are perverted, and public liberty manifestly endangered, and all other means of redress are ineffectual, the people may, and of right ought to reform the old, or establish a new government.

Yeah, I find it hard to predict because can depend on what clerk in the compliance department gets the intake and how rigorously they examine it. And also they have limited information with which to assess some of the warrants. They should all push back more on novel surveillance like geo fencing.

The Electronic Communications Privacy Act prohibits providers from turning over user data without some kind of legal order, depending on type of data and whether the user got notice in advance. Once providers got the legal orders (warrant for content), then yes, they would almost always disclose.

The ACLU of Florida @aclufl.bsky.social is hiring for an IR staff-attorney position as well as a supervising-attorney position that will ideally include a partial focus in either IR or 1A.

I've been guilty of saying that we are "powerless" against the deportation machine, but I was being too grandiose. DC shows us how to "look for the helpers", and find ways to be one.
With cellphone cameras and tip lines, D.C. residents find small ways to fight ICE

My glasses are definitely rose colored, I admit it. But what Internet innovations from the past 15 years, other than social media (which I would defend, but understand those who don't like it) are the products that have sucked badly enough that digital natives would dislike the Internet?

I tried to make myself feel more respectful of her by thinking it's like if we said, "the world would be better off without cars." We only see the current problems and can't imagine the advances from the horse and buggy era.

A few years ago one of our fellows told me she thinks the world would be better off without the Internet. I told her I was old enough to live through both and explained toll calls, paper maps, questions you never learn the answer to, wondering if anyone else in the world is gay...

SFO-LAS for #BlackHat25. Unfortunately can't stay through the weekend :-( but I'm hoping to see friends, not get locked into the utility stairway like that one time, and give a great talk on Thursday morning.

Very kind. Looking forward to it!

How is it possible that a far right podcaster Jack Posobiec, quoted in like the 15th paragraph, is the only person in this article who realizes that the woman serving a 20 year sentence might have an incentive to lie so that she can get a pardon from Trump.

Trump’s MAGA allies zero in on Ghislaine Maxwell as Epstein furor persists
The intensifying focus on Ghislaine Maxwell represents the latest turn in a winding case that has long been a focus of conspiracy theorists.

So this dude started in February and he's already reformed the American diet for the better? Wow, he's good.

Good point about the regime. The pretense is that this is police behaving badly, rather than a policing system out of control.

A long way of saying, I'm not cancelling my subscription. But come on!

...oh yeah, and the guy whose life's work is claiming that white people are superior to other races. He's not "a right-wing academic who has promoted eugenic views". He's a racist. And he's not responsible for "advancing" the non-story story, the NYT is.
