In general, these factoids tend to tie in with our own biases. Modern people view Gilded Age people as utter prudes who would faint at the sight of an ankle, so of course a couple of middle age canoodlers would cause a sex scandal! Ignoring the fact that they had trapeze strip acts and dirty books.
