This is something David Kessler often says about people in grief. But I also think it pertains to when we have a chronic illness, or trauma, or any kind of experience that was not what we planned and breaks us. We can’t create the life we wanted so we just think it’s over.

People are sometimes surprised that I talk about chronic illness as a grieving process. But it surely is. That’s why I wrote “Thriving in a Relationship When You Have Chronic Illness”, to help the two of you navigate this curve with grace. It’s not easy, but it can be done! #TherapistSky

Let’s face it, we could probably always do MORE, right? Especially in US hustle culture, the idea is push, push, push. Capture every project, get your kid on every team, work out every day - and on and on.. Hear me clearly. You are doing enough. You are enough. Doing your best is enough.

I want to do a quick little review of this book for those of you that are supervisors or Associate therapists. I have been looking for a book or journal that I could give to new hire Associates to drive good conversation & growth in supervision. #TherapistSky

This is a must read for ALL therapists, especially those of us who are neurotypical. As a NT therapist, I need to understand how neurodivergent folks are interpreting the therapy they are receiving, if it’s actually helpful and how I may need to adjust my style in order to accommodate them.

Most people aren’t super clear on their values. The great thing about determining your values and getting very clear on them is that it can drive your behavior. Someone should be able to look at your life and clearly understand what it is that you value. How are you doing on this? #TherapistSky

This was one of my favorite quotes from Emily Romero‘s book You can trust yourself. It struck me because by the time many of us know that we need to heal from something we go on social media, or read some book to figure out what the fastest way is to heal. #TherapistSky

Happy almost pub day to this book. Part somatic experiencing, part IFS, part “woo woo” (per the author). Reminded me of the Four agreements a little. I didn’t think I’d love this but it ended up being pretty profound. #TherapistSky#bookreview

This is old saying, maybe even Socrates. I know we are polarized; I know there are super important issues going on. But I see no reason why we cannot ask ourselves these three questions before we open our mouths, particularly online. Check if your facts are true & always be kind. #TherapistSky

Most of us hate the feeling of being stuck, it’s not a comfortable feeling. But being stuck is a feeling that alerts us that we need to make a change. If we never felt stuck we’d just be drifting along unconsciously.

I recently read about a study with college students. Half the students were assigned a 20 minute walk daily. The other half were also assigned a 20 minute walk daily AND told to find one thing on the walk each day that gave them a sense of awe.

There are not many subjects I can think of that are as misunderstood as forgiveness. Especially as a therapist who came from a church background, I’ve said “forgiveness is not reconciliation” so many times, my head hurts.
