Once again, learnin' from re-readin' Apocalypse World.

Here's my first pass at the Agenda, a translation of the "Always Say" part, and the Principles of play for the main characters of a game i've been running since 2006. In this game we play heroic versions of ourself, called "Avatars."

Doing my Year in Review stuff.
Not too shabby, considering the full nightmare America is in the 20s.
I ran 22.5 campaign games, and 3 1-shots. Played 12 games.

"...the profit motive is often in conflict with the aims of art. We live in capitalism, its power seems inescapable — but then, so did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art...."

Made some art for a game. I like how these turned out.

@megueyb.bsky.social are the "Always Say" statements in _Apocalypse World_ meaning "Always be honest about..."

I guess that makes the fourth one kind of redundant. "Always be honest about what honesty demands..."

Just musing on these.

I went to Montana for a month. On the last night of my trip i had dinner with a new friend, Dan Wanders. After, we settled into the kitchen where i made us both some tea.

I got in one good sip of honey-sweetened Montana Gold, when another new friend of mine died suddenly, and tragically.

The Real Work

It may be that when we no longer know what to do
we have come to our real work,

and that when we no longer know which way to go
we have come to our real journey.

The mind that is not baffled is not employed.

The impeded stream is the one that sings.

It took me some years to become a Superman fan. Took as many years, i'm sure, for the mythology to find the stories it needs to make that fiction meaningful.

Now i go back to a lot of those stories to remember the shape of them, and to remember the shape of who i want to be.

For the campaign i'm currently running i'm trying a new thing for NPCs.

In the past i would use pictures of celebrities to say "who plays this character" - this gave me not only a clear visual, but a voice and personality to play toward when portraying them in the game.

A couple months ago a friend (someone i used to feel close to) told me "you hate everything." We were talking about tabletop role-playing games, i'd just commented about a new design he'd picked up to start playing with a different group i don't know. He hasn't invited me to games in a long while.
