I do understand: you want permission. There's a machine in the corner wrapped in human skin that makes things out of shit and blood to look like whatever you want (as long as you don't look too closely). You gave one to your teacher and they didn't notice. Your boss told you to use it after they laid off half the team and it was fine. You fed one to your kids and they liked it. You want to know you can use it sometimes without me thinking less of you. You don't need me to believe it's useful, you just want me to be polite about it. But I am a hater, and I will not be polite. The machine is disgusting and we should break it. The people who build it are vapid shit-eating cannibals glorifying ignorance. I strongly feel that this is an insult to life itself.

It’s a bit of a read but it’s worth it. Talk to your kids from birth to adulthood. Talk to them. They need more from you than food, clothes, shelter and money.
I debated on sharing this but after talking to some colleagues, I decided this may be eye opening from some. As many of you know, I work with students in grades 7-12. This year I have noticed that students are more chatty than normal and students want to talk non-stop. After talking with a group of students last week about the excessive chatter, several of them mentioned that when they went home rarely talk to anyone. Many mentioned that they don't have family dinners, no one in the family talks, and often times they spend the remainder of their day in their rooms on their phones and video games. I challenged a group of 20 students to go home last night and start a conversation with an adult in their home. Use open ended questions and truly participate in meaningful conversation. The feedback today from my challenge was heart breaking and eye opening. Only TWO kids were successful in having a conversation with an adult. The others reported the following: Student 1: my dad told me to tell you that's your job Mrs. Jent, he doesn't want to hear my crap. Student 2: my grandma said she would talk to me after her show went off but she never quit watching tv all night: Student 3: my mom told me to shut up she was tired. Student 4: no one was at my house all night so l didn't have anyone to talk to. Student 5: everyone was busy doing other things and told me they didn't have time. See the trend? An even bigger eye opener? Every single student said they wish an adult at home would ask them about their day and be more involved. Parents, big kids need you just as much as they did when they were little! They crave your attention and love. Hug those big kids and love on them even if they act like they don't want your attention! Your big kids are amazing and l am blessed to work with them every day. Enjoy these last few years because you will miss it one day!
