I used to think that centrism was an ideological position based on what a person believed. Now I think that it’s just careerism. “What deeply held beliefs should I have in order to achieve my goals?” The only “center” there is the centering of oneself.

Always put “centrist” in scornquotes like that: self-bellowing “centrists” do not represent any “center” of opinion in their country, nor within human global opinion, they represent the general middlemark of opinion between the wealthiest, power-adjacent (and therefore rightwing) ten percent.
