The slowest production potter there ever was.

I found a toy rat outside the ceramics studio. He now lives on my shelf with all my other packrat stuff.

Monday morning glaze tests look promising, except for a few. Glaze changes in the studio aren’t always met with open arms but that’s okay. Materials change and studios need to adapt.

Finally, a day in the studio. I decided to make a few succulent planters, an incense burner and a new food dish for the dog.

Every now and then I have to sit down and throw a few bowls to let students know I have some pottery skills. There are always some doubters. These are for charity; my favorite reason to make bowls.

Stopped by the Adrian Center for the Arts letterpress studio to drop off a chase for my old Vandercook press. Since I’ll be in Adrian on a regular basis I purchased a membership.

Glazy 476538 (Cool Nebula) has just been made public from your friends at Washtenaw Community College, Ann Arbor, MI

I’ve been tasked with reorganizing the glaze layering test tiles. Displaying 100s of glaze tests on the wall can overwhelm new students. I created a more intimate and tactile experience. Samples are hands on so they can be viewed up close and personal.

Mug by Marion Short, Ann Arbor, MI. Trying to warm up the garage to get some work done.

Another glaze went public today on Glazy. It’s a Clara Giorello glaze. I replaced the South American ingredients with North American ingredients.

Creative Flow: Writing Amidst Daily Chaos

Creative Flow: Writing Amidst Daily Chaos
I keep reading that writers should have a dedicated space to work without distractions. Serious writers probably do this, especially if it's their primary source of income. I write for my own enjoyment in an old country house built in 1879. You might think living in the country would be peaceful where everyone sits in their rockers on the front porch sipping lemonade.

Navigating Turbulence: Humor and Integrity in Government Work
When I fly I like to sit at the back of the airplane. It's loud back there next to the rear engines but the sound is soothing to me. I put my books and water bottle in the back pocket of the seat in front of me, and make sure there's a barf bag there. I've never gotten sick on a plane but I have a fear of vomiting, which then creates a scene where everyone starts barfing around me.

This is the famous Folk Art Guild White in reduction. I tweaked the recipe to make it more affordable.

I’m happy to see another successful glaze reformulation come out of the reduction kiln at WCC. The mug is student work.
