Hi new people! Nice to meet you.

I am a Detroit area urban planner, transit advocate, and historic preservation professional.

#1 fangirl of the Open Meetings Act.

Come for the local government commentary, stay for the everything else (It’s mostly everything else.)

Going Alpine in Berwyn, Illinois
Small one-story house with a partial mansard roof maybe. Attached to the front of the roof are two half-timbered gables, wood painted brown, wall painted white. There is a little wooden chalet-like roof over the front door at the left. The rest of the facade is covered in really bad faux stone in shades of tan, grey, yellow, and, peach. There is a double window at the right shaded by a metal awning. Two manicured shrubs are protected by the world's smallest picket fence,

This is an unnecessary tech solution for cruel and uncaring COs and cops, using incarceration for things that require care, people baking in unairconditioned facilities, and so many other things that run deeper than a hard piece of plastic.

Traditional finger-worn pulse oximeters are less accurate for darker skin and are just generally known for having issues sometimes.

Sounds from the article like these things have a ton of issues too. Someone’s making bank off them though

We live someplace that actually seems to plow the roads now, which is WILD to me.

If we still lived in Hamtramck, seeing this would fill me with indescribable emotions

Aww, from maybe tangentially occupied to clearly not occupied.

This moorish influenced architecture style is my favorite Detroit vernacular.

Someone from our anti McKee neighborhood crew asked the guy if he wanted help fighting it, but he said he wanted to concentrate on getting his kid to a safe place.

Within days all their worldly possessions were on the curb.

That’s who Paul McKee is as a person. Never forget it.

One of the most fucked up Paul McKee eviction stories came from this block.

McKee bought a house a veteran and his kid were living in. Let the landlord NOT TELL THEM IT SOLD and keep pocketing rent & utilities.

They found out when their lights cut out in the middle of the night.

This block had SEVERAL families living on it until Paul McKee forced them out and intentionally allowed the homes to be destroyed via brick rustling.

I distinctly remember when this block was inhabited, and also painting over some graffiti of a slur on a vacant when he started forcing people out.

This was the old Euclid Branch school. I didn’t go here but some of my friends’ younger siblings did.

Our school bus stopped here before it went to our school.

They can do whatever they want at that factory in Gratiot and I’ll at least try it

I tried combining the leftovers of a bag of Detroit mix popcorn* and the leftovers of a bag of caramel popcorn.

I had the hypothesis this would be better than straight Detroit mix, but I was mistaken!! It needs the cheese

I feel the impulse to sit here and pick apart the many layers of why that is Not Okay, but you know your own life experiences well.

I’m glad you’re working towards ending things with him, bc that is not how one should talk to anyone, let alone one’s partner.
